Joel Werring (b.1970, Phoenix, Arizona) is an artist working across painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. His practice spans drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture and is rooted in line, shape, and the organization of space. Repetition and variation allow relationships to emerge through material and process, forming a visual vocabulary that moves across disciplines. Architectural references appear indirectly, informing relationships that evolve through making.

Werring received his BA in Art Practice from the University of California, Berkeley, and his MFA from the Yale School of Art. His honours include a Guggenheim Fellowship in Painting, and his work has been widely exhibited. He is an associate professor of Fine Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. He lives and works in Redding, Connecticut.
