Joel Werring (b.1970, Phoenix, Arizona) is an artist working across painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. His practice is rooted in structure, line, shape and the organization of space. Working through repetition and variation, he develops a visual language through sustained attention to material and process. Architectural references appear indirectly, informing relationships that evolve
through making.

Werring received his BA in Art Practice from the University of California, Berkeley, and his MFA from the Yale School of Art. His honours include a Guggenheim Fellowship in Painting, and his work has been widely exhibited. He is an associate professor of Fine Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. He lives and works in Redding, Connecticut.
