BIOGRAPHY
Lenka Rayn H. (b.1975, Prague, Czech Republic) is a London based visual artist. Lenka’s main medium is photography and printmaking and her work has been interchanging between portraiture, social documentary and self-expression studies. The tones of her work are often dark with de-saturated colours that entice the viewer in, but keep some mystery. She lets the viewer to draw their own conclusion from each work and aims to evoke an emotional response. In her more recent work she uses photogravure printmaking techniques and paper negatives processed in caffenol developer. These hands on methods of working helps her physically reconnect with her work and undo the instantaneous nature of photography.
Lenka draws inspiration from Old Masters, the nature and people close to her. She exhibits regularly in London and around the UK. Her work has been selected for RA Summer Show 2022, National Portrait Gallery Photo Prize 2014, 2001 and her work is in several public and private collections. She has one 1st prize single category in Julia Margaret Cameron Awards in 2021. Her work was published on a front cover of British Journal of Photography in 2014. She finished her photography studies in City of Westminster College with HND Diploma in 1998.
