MEDIUM
Mild steel, Momigami mulberry paper, Walnut husk dye
DESCRIPTION
Original
Inspired by the prehistoric stone monuments that dot our landscape. A hand shaped and welded steel frame forms the frame. Its skin is mulberry paper, hand-dyed with walnut husk, a powerful dye once used for ink and to colour the robes of monks. The paper's distinctive texture comes from Momigami, a traditional Japanese technique meaning "kneaded paper." This technique, once used by Japanese farmers who could not afford expensive fabric, strengthens the paper, giving it remarkable resilience.
