DESCRIPTION
"The Uffington White Horse is a prehistoric hill figure that was created sometime from 1380 - 550 BC in the parish of Uffington in Oxfordshire. This hill figure is by far the oldest of at least 50 found in England. The figure was created by digging deep trenches which were then filled with crushed white chalk. Whilst there is much speculation of the meaning of the hill figure, my favourite theory relates to its alignment with the sun, particularly the midwinter sun which appears to overtake the horse, reflecting mythology that the sun was carried across the sky on a horse or in a chariot." - Leonie Cameron
