Richard Heeps
BIOGRAPHY
Richard Heeps (b. 1965, Cambridge, England) is a film-based photographer known for using a range of vintage analogue cameras. Although Richard was brought up in East Anglia, he was heavily influenced by America. He visited American bases, kept magazine cuttings and followed drag racing - captivated by the speed, lifestyle and technicolour which is reflected in his work. The 'American' colour is a distinctive feature of Richards photography, often influencing his choices in materials and equipment. His strong desire to preserve, is a consistent thread throughout the different themes of his work.
Richard Heeps considers himself to have three studios. The external studio - the location where he shoots his work; the darkroom, where he makes his master prints and his home studio, used for postproduction where artworks are mounted, framed and finished. Richard's work remains accessible to all without compromising on quality, a result achieved by producing everything in-house.
