Rollo Dunford Wood
Rollo Dunford Wood is a craftsman and designer based in Snowdonia, North Wales, where he designs and builds bespoke timber cabins, follies and pavilions from his rural workshop. Rooted in traditional craft and natural materials, his work is shaped by a lifelong connection to making, restoration, and the quiet rhythm of the landscape. Drawing on a lifetime of working with wood, clay, and reclaimed materials, his creations balance practicality with poetry, blending vernacular artistic forms with imaginative, enduring detail.
WP: "What is your most beloved room in your house and why?"
Rollo: "My most beloved room is my workshop barn, which I recently built in my yard. I need to feel inspired by my place of work, and this barn makes me very happy.
Built from the components of two different farm buildings and clad with reclaimed Wrigley tin, it is painted in old red oxide, with streaks of rust running down its sides. The windows and interior I’ve painted a green-blue turquoise that reflects the sky and complements the red oxide of the tin. It’s a good representation of what I like to build, reminiscent of the old farmyard barns I see all around North Wales.
With enough space inside to build a cabin or folly, the back gable opening looks out over the Dee Valley and across to Snowdonia National Park. I watch the circling buzzards and sometimes catch a glimpse of a Hercules aircraft rumbling past at eye level."
