Familiar (Hare)

by Leonie Cameron
MEDIUM
Hand knitted British wool textile on wood board
DESCRIPTION
"Hares are elusive creatures, prevalent in folklore around the world. They are often associated with love and fertility, once regarded as sacred to Aphrodite and Eros. The phrase 'Mad as a March Hare' has been a popular idiom in British culture for centuries, and aligns with the creatures 'trickster' reputation in many folk tales. However, this trickster reputation lends itself to tall tales that Hares were witches 'Familiars', allies to those practicing witchcraft or even a shapeshifting witch themselves." - Leonie Cameron
