Mire

by Findere
MEDIUM
Mild steel, Momigami mulberry paper, Walnut husk and iron dye
DESCRIPTION
Original
Mire takes its name from an old word once used to describe the dark, boggy ground. A hand- shaped and welded steel structure forms the frame. Its skin is mulberry paper, hand-dyed using a natural blend of walnut husk and iron. The paper's distinctive texture comes from Momigami, a traditional Japanese technique meaning "kneaded paper." This technique, once used by Japanese farmers who could not afford expensive fabric, strengthens the paper, giving it remarkable resilience.
