WP: "What is your most beloved room in your house and why?"
Bourne: "My most beloved room is my Bedroom which displays my collection of antique textile and carpet fragments. I started my career in Antique Persian carpets in the late 1970’s prior to getting involved in the design and production of rugs and textiles in the early 1990’s and as I've got older have found my self returning to antiques and have been collecting old and rare items for the last ten years. It's my love of antique textiles that informs the rugs we produce now at Christopher Farr with an eye of high quality materials and traditional dying and production techniques.
Larger Items are kept in our London studio but the smaller pieces are mounted on stretchers and cover the walls of my bedroom.
They range from a 17th century carpet fragment from Isfahan in Persia to an 18th century Italian velvet that I acquired from the estate of the late Howard Hodgkin - we produce rugs from his original artworks for the Howard Hodgkin Estate - that was sold at Sotheby's. In all there are around ten pieces on the walls and I love waking up each morning be surrounded by historic pieces that remind me of how I became involved in this business right at the beginning."
